Navigate with Ease
nüvi comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps for the continental United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, including a hefty database of more than 6 milliong points of interest (POIs), such as hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more, that are searchable by name or category. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. In addition, the nüvi accepts custom (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs.

Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store.

Navigation is just the beginning. nüvi features travel tools including JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. It also comes with Garmin Lock, an anti-theft feature, and configurable vehicle icons that let you select car-shaped graphics to show your location on the map.

This device is compatible with optional content plug-ins available via SD card, such as the  Garmin Travel Guides and Garmin SaversGuide provide detailed data for attractions and information on nearby merchants offering discounts, so you can customize nüvi for your travel needs.

Garmin has also added the ability for customers to add custom points of interest (POI’s) from third parties such as school zones and safety cameras.

This "feature" was not part of the specs when I bought it. Who wnats to pay for a "tool" and then have it change its ease of use after a year. Works about as well as any other brand on the market, but after using it for a year the unit is programmed to force a "Map Update Notice" screen to pop up each time the unit is turned on. Very annoying because that screen stays on unless you acknowledge it by pushing "OK".

it may sometimes tell you to turn an incorrect direction but it will alway re-direct you to the right location. it will get you there.

I have big hands and I would sometime hit a button wrong but i have fixed this by takeing one of my kid's DS styless and use it on the screen. I live in New Jersey and the item was sent from Las Vegas distribution center rather then one on the east coast. It has gotten me to where I needed to be.

It took almost 2 weeks to get my item. Then trucked to southern Cali before shipping across the country. I was not in a hurry but it was sent in such a roundabout way that i will never use it again.

First off I really like my NUVI200 by Garmin. MY problem is with Amazons "free" shipping. My GPS needed a GPS.

My only con, and it is more my problem then the units is the touch screen is too small for my fingers. Works well.

The download took 4 hours on a high speed connection. Since my Garmin is useless without this update, I decided purchase it. The map update for this device is $70 and the 10% discount did not apply to this update.

In September 2008, the Garmin completely stopped functioning and directed me to purchase a map update on their site. I logged onto the Garmin's website and went through an hour long product registration process to see if I qualified for a free map update. I purchased my Garmin in November 2007.

At the end of a frustrating hour long registration, I was told that I did not qualify for a free map update and got a 10% coupon for select products. If you purchase this device, beware that annual updates will cost almost as much as the device. I went to the site and discovered that I needed to first purchase a USB cable to connect the device.

$20 and two weeks later, the cable arrived.

No problems at all. I have used it since taking it from the box for business and pleasure.
